FFI: How did you become interested in nutrition?

Bakhresa: I became interested in nutrition from attending international seminars where FFI was very active, as well the local awareness created by National Food Fortification Alliance (NFAA), Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS), Tanzania Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) and the Tanzania Food and Nutrition Centre (TFNC) of the Ministry of Health and Community Development.

FFI: How is your country prioritizing fortification?

Bakhresa: Tanzania is prioritizing fortification through using a multi- sectoral approach, which involves NFAA, TBS, TFDA and TFNC, with training and support from internal organizations such as FFI, GAIN and HKI.

FFI: What are the main components to a successful fortification program where you live?

Bakhresa: The fortification program is multi-sectoral, involving stake holders from manufacturing, regulatory agencies, ministry of health, academic institutions, international organizations and the blessings of the political leadership of the country.

FFI: Would you like to share anything else?

Bakhresa: I consider fortification to be a social responsibility to our customers and the general population.
